( Yeni ) – From July 1, 2024, the Identity Law officially takes effect. Accordingly, some subjects will have to change to a new Identification card.
Cases of issuance and re-issuance of ID cards are detailed in Article 24 of the Law on Identification 2023. Accordingly, cases of issuance and re-issuance of ID cards include:
– Vietnamese citizens have been issued ID cards when they are 14 years old, 25 years old, 40 years old and 60 years old;
– Change or correct information about family name, middle name, birth name; date of birth;
– Changing identity; Additional information about facial photos and fingerprints; gender reassignment or gender change according to the law;
– There are errors in the information printed on the identification card;
– At the request of the person issued with the ID card when the information on the ID card changes due to the arrangement of the administrative unit;
– Re-establish personal identification number;
– When the person to whom the identification card is issued requests.
The Identity Law 2023 takes effect from July 1, 2024. Accordingly, there are many regulations on the issuance and replacement of Identity cards that people need to know.
In addition, Article 46 of the Identity Law 2023 stipulates:
– CCCD cards issued before July 1, 2024 are valid until the expiry date printed on the card, except for the cases specified in Clause 3, Article 46 of the Law on Identification 2023. Citizens can get it when they need it. Change to ID card.
– ID card with expiry date after December 31, 2024 is valid until December 31, 2024.
Legal documents issued using information from ID cards and CCCDs will retain their validity; State agencies are not allowed to request citizens to change or adjust information on ID cards and ID cards in issued documents.
– CCCD cards and ID cards that expire from January 15, 2024 to before June 30, 2024 will continue to be valid until June 30, 2024.
Thus, from July 1, 2024, the following cases must have their ID cards changed:
+ Vietnamese citizens aged 14 years or older must complete procedures for issuance of identification cards
+ The CCCD card with the chip expires after July 1, 2024 and must go through procedures to replace the ID card.
+ People who are using ID cards (ID cards are valid until December 31, 2024), after this date must carry out procedures for issuance and replacement of ID cards.
At the same time, if citizens need it, they can still change from CCCD card to identification card.
Cases that do not require immediate change to an Identification card include:
– Those who have been issued CCCD cards and are still valid
– People with an ID card (still valid) will be valid until December 31, 2024. From January 1, 2025, people in this case must still change to an Identification card.
– Citizens over 60 years old are not required to change their ID cards. However, in case the card is damaged, lost or the citizen needs to change it to an Identification card, he/she can still carry out the procedures for issuing a new card or replacing the card.
